Welcome To Horton's Antique Clock Auction

AUCTION COMMENTS
Surprise, the October 2009 Auction was one of our best. That is four in a row, August 2008,
January 2009, July 2009, and October 2009 auction were the best we have had in over 30
years of selling clocks. We may be in a recession but evidently clock people are choosing to
invest their money in clocks rather than stocks, CD’s, and other things.
We have been monitoring other auction houses, and attending some of the large clock auctions,
and have noticed a steady increasing interest in investing in clocks. We are still getting
calls from families that want to sell or consign collections to us. Most always the collector
has recently passed and the family wants to move the clocks. We try to accommodate everyone,
but it is impossible to buy them all. We had one long term customer to pass recently who
asked his wife and children to call us immediately to sell his clocks. They did not call us
because they felt the economic situation would put a damper on clock sales, not realizing
prices are higher during this recession than they were before and probably later.
Why should you consider Horton’s before selling your collection?
• We pay a fair value.
• We pay you before we remove the clocks from your home.
• We assume all risks.
• We will buy the entire collection, or any part thereof.
Most of the clocks we sell are the result of buying collections, or parts of collections. We
have several collectors who are selling us a few clocks each year; thereby extending the time
they are able to enjoy their clocks. We have been buying 25-50 clocks each year from a northeast
doctor, and it may take him another ten years to sell us all of his clocks.
Most of the higher priced clocks in this auction we bought from a Midwest family, and an
east coast doctor. The well known Midwest collector had recently passed and his family
called us to buy them. Many of the clocks numbered 100 through 700 came from a Long
Island collector who accumulated his clocks over a 50 year period. I thought it was interesting
that he acquired several hundred clocks in his lifetime and had never heard of the
NAWCC, did not know another clock collector, or ever attended any clock functions.
Good luck in bidding,
Horton’s Antique Clocks
