E. Ingraham & Co. enameled wood cased mantle clock,
"Phenix", ca 1915. A fairly common black mantle, one
not so unusual that I
would call all my rela-
tives in to see what I
have found. For a black
mantle, it is not bad,
unrestored, all the metal
is intact and has retained
most of the gilt on the
trimmings, original dial
has held up exceptionally well, good gilt metal inner
dial, original hands, and the dial is signed. Covering the
dial is a good sash and flat glass. The 17" by 11" black
wood case has crusted over etched designs and there are
red marbleized moldings above and below the columns,
and you will find some wear and bruises about the case.
Four of the columns are wood, the two in the centers
are adamantine. The movement is dirty, 8 day, half hour
bell strike, hourly gong strike, and has the correct pen-
dulum. Now to the highlight of this clock and some-
thing I have never seen on a black. The removable
wood back cover has a complete red label that says in
part, "The Alamo / Clock Department / Belknap Hdw.
& Mfg. Co., / Louisville, Kentucky". There is a para-
graph on the label about the Alamo, Texas, and this
clock. This is a new one on me. Ly-Ingraham #596.

"The Horolovar Flying Pendulum Clock / Ignatz / The
Craziest Clock in the World", ca 1970's and made in
Western Germany by the Horolovar
Co. of the Bronx, New York. The
original clock was made by the New
Haven Clock Co., under the Jerome
and Co. name, for about a year,
1884. In 1935 it was given the
name "Ignatz", by Dr. H. G.
Rowell, because it reminded him
of Ignatz, the mouse, in the old
Krazy Kat comic strip. This clock
is like new, running, and doing its
crazy thing. Original instruction
booklet is included. $150-$300.

French 3 piece marble set, clock, two large urns, ca
1880. 8 day time only movement is complete and run-
ning. Round, solid
plate movement,
pendulum,
solid
brass hinged back
door. Good one
piece
porcelain
dial, infinitesimal
chips around the
winding arbor, correct French hands. Dial signed by a
New York selling dealer. The clock is 11" high; the urns
are 9" high. No big chips or cracks on the 3 pieces, but
you will find the occasional edge nick and stain spot.
There are remedies for those problems. $200-$300.

$100
French black marble mantle clock, ca 1885. The black
marble case is 15" high and 10.5" wide, has two inset
pieces of light marble, top and bottom. There are full
brass columns on the ends, a plain brass
sash with beveled glass over the
dial. The dial ring is black marble,
incised numerals with gold filling,
mottled brass inner dial and the
original pair of French hands. The
dial is signed, "Gve Rey / Paris".
This case has four turned brass
feet. The 8 day movement is typi-
cal French, round, striking a stand-
ing gong on the half hours and
hours. The movement is not signed,
the pendulum is the type the clock requires but we have
no way of knowing if it is original to the clock. The
movement is fairly clean, complete, and operating. A
perforated metal back hinged door covers the movement
opening and it is covered with red cloth. $150-$300.

$100
French black marble clock, ca 1880. The case is 15"
wide and 13.5" high, has several pieces of inlaid mar-
ble, light in color, in the tan and grey
tones. Incised designs on every
piece of marble on the front,
some gold filling still visible, I
would assume it has not worn out
of the etched places, but is cov-
ered with smoke or dirt. This
case, unlike all the other
marble clocks from this
Long Island collection, has a
good many attached pieces of marble, several on the
top, and others on the sides, which give the case some
oomph. It has a French sash, beveled glass, black mar-
ble dial ring with incised numerals/gold filled, a mot-
tled brass inner dial, and a great pair of French hands.
Round French movement, correct pendulum, running,
striking a gong on the half hours and hours. Not signed
on the movement or dial. Metal back door is hinged,
and painted black to match the marble. $150-$300.

Seth Thomas Clock Co. adamantine case mantle clock,
ca 1896. Factory stamped on the
case, "6981A". A good portion
of the paper label is on the back,
so badly worn you can only read
about half. This Long Island col-
lector had a whole lot of clocks
that I have never seen before,
this being one. It is not pic-
tured in Ly-Seth Thomas. The
brown case is 12" by 11.5" high,
has black incised adamantine below the dial, and black
wood trim around the front and sides. Four metal feet,
two columns, and one piece stamped dial, and matching
in color and near perfect. Numerals are highlighted with
black paint and the hands are black. Basically the whole
clock is black, medium brown and gilded metal, making
for a beautiful clock. It has the correct back door, 8 day
movement, gong and pendulum. The movement is per-
forming properly. $100-$200.

Sessions Clock Company hanging clock, "Drop
Octagon 10-Inch", ca 1908. A very good 24" high oak
cased clock with deep grooves
around the octagon top and the
lower door. No pressed designs
on this case, just grooves.
Original signed 10 inch dial,
fairly clean, some rub marks
around the time track, good
hands, brass bezel with flat
glass over the dial, and a
"Regulator" glass in the lower
door. Correct pendulum, and the 8
day time only movement that is
running vigorously. 50-60% of the
paper label remains on the back.

German cuckoo clock, possibly 1970's in the Western
Germany era. Bright, clean, like new, but has been
operated some. No doubt the move-
ment is only one day, running
vigorously. It was out of beat and
ran anyway. Everything is origi-
nal to this clock, weights,
chains, gong on the backboard,
pendulum, movement, etc. After
photographing the clock I found
the numeral "VII" on the floor. I
put it with the clock. Numerals
now all there. The case is 18"
high, not including the pendulum,
weights, chains, etc. $100-$200.

Sessions Clock Co. banjo, "Revere", ca 1927. This
mahogany finished case is 34" high, has nice
decorated glass panels, ship scene on the
lower, lighthouse on the throat glass. It has
a gold plated sash, eagle, and side rails.
Bowed glass in the sash over the silver
dial, original hands and original pendu-
lum. The movement is 8 day, time and
strike, running and striking. Piece of a
label on the back. Ly-Sessions #48. $150-
$300.

$100
Sessions Clock Co. banjo, "York", ca 1927. A very nice
little banjo, only one problem, the bottom
glass is plain, should have a decorated
panel there. Otherwise it is near perfect,
has a complete paper label, and best of
all a signed porcelain dial and the orig-
inal hands. The hand carved genuine
mahogany case is 26" long, has a beau-
tiful finial, a gold plated sash and eagle,
and an 8 day time only movement. Your
mother in law should be happy, it will not
ding all night. Ly-Sessions #55. $150-
$300.

$75
Miniature American steeple clock, ca 1850. The
mahogany veneered case is 15.5" tall, with an OG base,
rolled edges, two original and very good
glasses, and two finials. About the finials
you have to look very close to see
they are not a perfect match. Close
but no cigar. Some veneer chips on
the base, otherwise is passable.
Door latch, brass bob, old key, good
hands, original panted dial has faded
greatly, but gosh it is 160 years old.
Iron bell that the alarm sounds on
and the small 30 hour unsigned brass
movement. No label, no signature
anywhere. You folks who study
such things can probably identify the
clocks maker by the movement. $100-$150.

$100
French white onyx mantle clock, ca 1880. It has the
typical brown veins in the white onyx, and thankfully
no separation of the stone in the
veins. There are no breaks or
cracks, if there are chips they
would be on the edges and very
small. The case is 9.5" by 9.5".
Brass columns on the ends,
French sash and a nice beveled
glass over the dial. It has the
original hands, circles around
the time track with numerals
recessed and painted black. Cast inner dial in the form
of flowers. Back sash has a cloudy back glass, correct
pendulum bob, standing Cathedral gong, and signed 8
day movement that strikes half hours on the gong. The
movement is signed, "Japy Freres", clean, complete,
and operating properly. $150-$300.
